Little Chenier: A Cajun Story
I'm not sure what I was expecting with this movie. Maybe some Popeye's chicken and Justin Wilson or something. I saw that it had won awards, but I didn't know it was going to be a pretty deep movie. It's got a really slick mix of French/Cajun and English. Most of it is English, but from what I know, a lot of people switch back and forth for various reasons. Shrimp farmer, Beaux, in Louisiana scrapes by in the bayou with his retarded little brother, Pemon. Sometimes the dad shows up with random women and is basically an ass. The sheriff of the town is a good guy, but his son is bored with his job (as the sheriff's deputy) and ends up not being there to protect his dad. Dad gets shot and dies. The son takes over the "town" and hates the main character. So the new sheriff makes life hard on Beaux because Beaux's x-gf is the sheriff's new wife. Things turn real ugly really fast. It's a pretty harsh look at the reality of bayou life and it's still a pretty touching movie. It's REALLY slow moving, but I think that adds to the charm of this movie. This is a good one, but it's probably not a date movie or anything.
